Thinking again about painting without brushes, I decided to push the boundaries of my artwork by making a painting that represents the movement of an athlete, specifically a gymnast or cheerleader, by performing cartwheels with my hands and feet covered with paint. This was a very risky painting and required a lot of caution in terms of health an safety. To prevent slipping, I used water-colour paint as opposed to acrylic as the paper would absorb the water a lot faster allowing my hands to grip the paper.
I parcel-taped strips of wallpaper to the floor creating enough coverage for my cartwheel painting. I also bought a pair of white canvas shoes to wear while making the painting which absorbed the paint splashes and I now also consider the shoes as part of the painting and final outcome.
This painting was incredibly fun to make and is probably something I would never have thought of doing in the past. The process of this painting was just as important as the outcome and I consider this project a huge success!
